Alright, folks! Here's the skinny on vehicles as it currently stands!

We plan to have horses, mechanical animals, horseless carriages, boats, airships, rocketpacks, and possibly ornithopters as personal conveyances.

However. When you "summon" your personal vehicle (whatever it may be) you're actually spawning a physx object that can be player controlled.

This means that players can ride with you on an airship or boat, or in the passenger seat of your car. We're currently looking into the applications of players fighting NPCs and other players from the vehicles themselves. Ideas such as weapons mounted on the vehicle itself, for example. But this also leads to some intense and interesting PvP battles.

For example. Let's presume that two guilds are "At War" with each other. They agree to fight at a certain locale, load up onto a pair of airships, and fly to the locale. Far enough from guards to avoid random interruption. Twelve players are riding on each airship while the ship's owners pilot their way to the site of the battle. Halfway there, one guild gets a bit itchy and some of the members us their rocket-packs to fly over to the other ship and start attacking people. Bam. Instant mid-air ship-to-ship combat.

Vehicles themselves will have several stats of their own. Including Durability, Maneuverability, and Speed. Pilots are the only class with inherent personal buffs which effect the vehicles they are currently in control of. This means that a Pilot with the appropriate talents can fly a ship or drive a car faster and more precisely than another character.

Once summoned a vehicle will remain in existence until it's owner unsummons it or all players have left the vehicle and the owner is offline. The Vehicle's owner can choose to allow up to 4 alternate pilots while the vehicle is summoned. These players can take over piloting duties at any time the owner of the vehicle isn't behind the wheel. The owner, however, can unsummon a vehicle at any time, whether piloting it or not. This avoids players "Stealing" someone else's vehicle.

Sounds very interesting.

Trying to fix that for you.  Grin

The good news?  You may just get one now...  Bad news is that you have to build it yourself!

Whee Vehicles! ^_^ this is definitely going to be something I want to poke at and mess with alot! Whee Anna the Airship Pilot!! Woot!! hehe As for combat with vehicles, and 'tween ships and boats and the like, sounds awesome!! Though they should probably be held to the same attack standards as players, or at least share the flagged status as the owner. Meaning that some random Meanie can't just blow me outta the sky when I'm trying to zoom around the skys!!

Oh! OH! OOOOOHHHH!!! Also we should totally be allowed to name our vehicles. Yups...So we can have cool names like HMS Skycutter, instead of things like Anna's Skyship.

Oh....also Steampunk + me hyper = probably not a good combo but still fun non-the-less!

I must say, vehicular combat is definitely something that I'm really excited about.

Hmm. Name your own vehicles. I have an idea brewing...

Again, I'm mostly excited about the roleplaying and immersive potential. I'm already planning out having guild meetings and headquarters in a secret airship base, hovering somewhere over the distant mountains...  Grin

Anna, I suppose if we see an airship zipping across the sky in random directions and hear a faint, manic shriek of glee coming from above, we'll know who's piloting it. Tongue

....Your daddy told you that you'd have to dig through a lot of poo to find a pony!  Besides, there wasn't room in the garden for a pony...what with the obstacle course he had set up.

A wonderful realization will be the day you realize that you are unique in all the world. There is nothing that is an accident. You are a special combination for a purpose-and don't let them tell you otherwise, even if they tell you that purpose is an illusion. (Live an illusion if you have to).

and water ?
you need something to travel ocean depths with, sail around the islands in sea... or pond... i just love water transport...
but an air-filled balloon will keep me on the surface too...
yes by the way, will there be water to swim in the game?
would be fun if privateer could sneak to a group of enemies through a pond or over a river,
when guilds were at war for example they could block off a bridge and you could swim over the river then
water gives a lot of new aspects to the game... and if there were means of on water transportation ...
like a small steam driven boat with mounted weapons on it...

Pirates are ALWAYS relevant. Although in this case, they'd best fit the pulp adventure theme, particularly in the SE Asia region if we have one.
