Hello,

Well so far I have seen that players will be able to craft upgrades or "mods" for their equipments, and Clockworkers will have their clanks.
But in the crafting system, is considererd items that aren't weapons, armors or upgrades for these?

Like, for example, a remote controlled spybot, you know, for thos occasions you get to an unknow area and want to survey, and know that if you enter you will be eaten, blasted, or smitten. It never hurts knowing the gruesome way you could die if you enter some place.

Or mechanical traps, alarms, decoys and things like that.

Maybe a more advanced craft system for clockworkers and/or engineers.

Just a thought that crossed my mind, crafting random clockwork/steampowered items and the like.

PS: If this was already adressed, my apologies, I haven't seen it yet =P *continues to see through the forum and site*

It's not inconceivable and definitely something we'll have to look into as the project progresses. There might be some engine limitations to work around but we'll definitely weigh the benefits against the investment.

Keep brainstorming!

-IF crafting is to be an important part of this game, at the early stages i think it's helpful to look at games that did crafting well:

Star Wars Galaxies
Saga of Ryzom
Horizons
Fallen Earth
EQII (early after release)
Puzzle Pirates

...and not so well:

City of Heroes/Villains
Warhammer Online
Age of Conan
EQII (late after release)

The rest are hit or miss. Horizons and Star Wars Galaxies have the top two takes on this type of system that few have tried to replicate. With limited resources no need to reinvent the wheel for market share. Just throw a nice mag wheel on it and spit-shine it up for the public.

Particular to your post, as the game progresses i hope the team puts the thought into it you have, but also looks to the games where crafting has worked, where it hasn't and why.

Well doing a good crafting system is kinda difficult, do it too simple, and it becomes routine, and boring, do it too complex and it becomes tedious.

I can't say I have played a game with a worthy craft system...

I mean, in Lineage 2, you gather materials that doesn't really have anything to do with the items you make, gather some leather, some bone powder, the edges and a lot of crystals and voila, you have got yourself a polearm. Not to mention that getting the things by drop is a pain and my soul cried blood everytime I had to get the things, and fail the craft. It gives me nightmares.

Free Realms has their minigames, as does PuzzlePirates (last time I checked at least), and that gets kinda old, fast.

The craft system I have liked the most is found in WoW, especifically the engineer's one. You collect metal, make your screws and tubes and things like that, and make curious things, like clockwork chickens.
It's a shame that it's wow, and I can't seem to like it.

But yeah, I am talking too much xD

Basically I though, one could get a notebook, to record -for example- blueprints for engineers. These recipes could be found in books or for more basic ones in specialized shops. Once you "register" the blueprint, it adds a page in the notebook (the item opens the "craft system window") with a sketch of the item in question, the materials it needs, and a craft button (a la Arcanum, one could say).
And for the materials, one could buy them from shops, do some scavenging, or disassembling created things or found objects, you find a pocketwatch and disassemble it for parts.
there could be blueprints that all (or various) classes can read, and more specialized one for engineers only.

Dunno, it's 4:12 am, just tossing whatever cross my mind xD

Don't even know if at least I make sense or not.

I think I'm going to bed now :x

If I think something else, well... I will post it xD

Cya
