The Engineer is our Melee Support and Buff class

Trained in the arts of quick repairs and invention, the Engineer can apply short-lived buffs to a player's weapons and equipment. But when he's not crafting temporary weapon bonuses or additional hit points for his allies hes very familiar with melee. Armed with heavy bludgeons in the form of wrenches and often a pistol or two, the Engineer is far more comfortable on the front line than any Sharpshooter or Pilot. Engineers are solo-ready, but truly shine when they've a team to reinforce. It should also be noted that Engineers can repair vehicles and damage done to them, making them a Pilot's greatest ally.

One of my two favorite classes by concept. Like the Medic, the engineer will be right there on the front lines. Should be fun!

To me, the Engineer should make just more than guns . Perhaps he could create a group of robots or power armor. Basically, more exotic inventions.

The robots are more of the clockworker's domain, I think. I can envision the powered armor as equipment for the dreadnought as well as an engineer buff.

Are the Engineer's buffs going to be teammates only, or will he be able to target himself as well?  Because if he is unable to target himself, than I can imagine solo-play will be odd as only half of his skill-set will be useable (a la Empathy Defenders).

An Engineer will not be able to target -any- player with his various buffs. They will be equipment-based buffs, such as improved accuracy with a particular rifle, greater damage from over-packed bullets with too many grains. Things of that nature.

Thus an Engineer can buff the weapons of any party member as well as himself.

Similarly he can buff armor through additional padding, a second plate here or there, etc.

The short answer: His talents won't become useless.

Noice.  So he could target his own equipment for buffs.... that will definately be a nice change from Defenders.
